“Oh, another sprite game,” one might think when he/she sees this title, but this is not the case at all. Disgaea meshes comical anime mischief with turn-based tactical strategy, and the result is one that fans of Nippon Ichi games, as well as of tactical RPG-goodness, will remember for a long time. The game was released in Japan, North America, and Europe in 2003 to 2004, all under different publishers. It contains many features that reinvent the conventional TRPG, and the way it’s played. The player may pickup any enemy, or even allies, and throw them around the isometric map. This presents the player with a number of opportunities to throw an enemy off the map, in which case the enemy becomes an ally for you to use, or simply to keep an enemy from attacking during its turn. Once the player finishes the game, they can play through the game again with each of their character's levels status. This make for reaching the max level 9999, and offers other chances to enjoy the other endings that are acquired after fulfilling specific objectives.

Demon prince Laharl awakes from his 2-year sleep to find that his father has died. Etna, a vassal of King Krichevskoy, agrees to help Laharl reclaim his throne. Both of them set off to Vyer’s castle, another demon vying for the title of overlord. Shortly after, the two meet with an angel trainee, or apprentice, called Flonne. With a saccharine personality and a love for all all living things, she accompies Laharl to see whethor or not demons are capable of love.
